Talks not successful! The strike will commence on March 1st! What happened during the discussion between professionals and Ranil!

The union of professionals said that in the discussion held today (25) with the President, their demands were not resolved as expected.

Speaking to the media after the discussion held at the President’s Secretariat, Dr. Haritha Aluthge, Secretary of the Government Medical Officers Association, stated that they will continue their protests accordingly.

“None of us presented our personal opinion. We represent the voice of all professionals.”

“But we didn’t get the answer we were hoping for today.”

“We said we can no longer afford this tax. So please provide some relief immediately.”

“On the part of the president, it was accepted that our proposals are very reasonable.”

“We asked to do this in a way that does not harm the state revenue.”

“The president made a request to join us as professionals in the discussions with the IMF representatives.”

“But in the end, today’s discussion did not hinder the continuation of the series of protests that will begin after March 1.”

“We do not believe that we have received a positive response to stop them. Therefore, we are moving forward with the decisions we have taken.”

“Something that was read from the side of the president is that this country cannot be recovered without going to the IMF.”

“The president said that if a tax revision is done before the IMF comes to a final agreement, it will have a negative impact. We do not accept that. The IMF says to collect this amount.

“In any case, we hope to continue the discussion. We will not give up this fight until we bring these tax reforms to a level that professionals can afford.”
