State Minister Arundika Fernando released a Chinese passenger who had entered Sri Lanka with a fake passport.

The Department of Immigration and Emigration says that an investigation has been started regarding Li Pan, a Chinese national who tried to enter the country using a fake passport and then entered the country with a Chinese passport. Immigration and Emigration Controller Harsha Ilukpitiya says that in addition to a Chinese passport, the Chinese national also had a flight permit belonging to Guinea, an African country.

The Chinese in question had arrived at Katunayake Airport from Dubai on the night of the 18th with another Chinese and an Egyptian. During an inspection conducted by the immigration officials, suspicions have arisen regarding the Guinean passport of the suspected Chinese national and a Chinese passport was found in his possession.

It is said that the Chinese national has behaved riotously in the airport after taking steps to detain him in the custody of the airport security.

In the meantime, various phone calls had been received and later the Minister of State Arundika Fernando had also made a request in writing on behalf of the Chinese national. He had said that this Chinese national had come to invest in a housing scheme under his ministry.

However, Immigration and Emigration Controller Harsha Ilukpitiya states that these persons have been released and if they are found guilty in the investigation, they will be arrested and deported.
