Special Statement from IGP

C.D. Wickremaratne, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has issued a special statement in response to the current anti-government protests in Sri Lanka.
In a statement to the media, the IGP stated that the Sri Lanka Police respects peaceful public gatherings in accordance with the Sri Lankan Constitution.
He also stated that the Police have taken every precaution to protect the rights of the people, and that all Police personnel have been informed of this.

According to the IGP, it is the public’s responsibility to act responsibly without interfering with the rights of others.

“The public, including political and religious leaders, have been asked to refrain from causing disturbance or hindrance to the public when exercising their fundamental rights,” he added.
