Singapore says Rajapaksa on private visit, not granted asylum

Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was allowed to enter Singapore on a private visit on Thursday and was not granted asylum, according to the city-state, after arriving from the Maldives.

“It has been confirmed that Mr. Rajapaksa has been granted permission to enter Singapore on a private visit,” Singapore’s foreign ministry said in a statement. “He has not sought asylum and has not been granted asylum.” In general, Singapore does not grant asylum requests.”
