The National People’s Force has filed three interim petitions before the Supreme Court requesting the dismissal of the writ petition filed by retired Colonel W.M.R. Wijesundara requesting a writ order to stop the holding of the local government election.

These petitions have been filed by Mr. Sunil Vatagala, member of the National People’s Force Executive Committee, Eranga Gunasekara, the National Organizer of the Socialist Youth Union, and Mr. Vishkeshar Chandrashekar, a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Law of the University of Colombo.

It is stated in these interlocutory petitions that all the petitioners are qualified voters and that voting in the local government election is a constitutional right and as it is a fundamental right, the election should be held on time as advised by Mr. Manjula Balasuriya.

Accordingly, it is stated in the petitions that the writ petition filed against the holding of the election is against the law and that the relevant information has been concealed from the court. Therefore, the petitioners have requested in their petition that the writ petition filed against the local government election be dismissed. .
