‘Our land will be traded to private companies’. On September 8, the Court of Appeal will hear writ petition filed by tribal leader Uruwari Vannialatto.

The Court of Appeal fixed a writ petition submitted by tribal leader Uruwarige Vannialatto on September 8.

He had filed the petition against the Mahaweli Authority’s decision to release his traditional homelands in the Rambakan Oya area and hand them over to private companies for various cultivation purposes.

This petition was summoned today (02) before the Court of Appeal bench consisting of Messrs. Sobitha Rajakaruna and Dhammika Ganepola.

The bench ordered that the petition be called on September 8 for hearing.

The petitioner tribal leader has said that the Mahaweli Authority has decided to release his traditional homeland in the Rambakan Oya area and give the relevant land to private companies for maize cultivation.

The adivasi leader had filed this case claiming that this is causing a severe injustice to his community and therefore requesting an order to annul the relevant decision.
