Northern Tamil MPs decline President’s meeting because Eastern Tamil MPs are not invited.

The President has invited the Tamil political parties in the North to come and discuss how to decentralize power to the North and East provinces.

Representatives belonging to seven Tamil political parties in the north are scheduled to participate in this discussion held in Colombo on the 11th, 12th and 13th of May. In a discussion held by those parties in Jaffna, it has been decided that if the Tamil MPs representing the eastern provinces are not given an opportunity to participate in this discussion. The Tamil MPs from the north will also not participate in the discussion with the President.

The leaders of the seven Tamil parties, who have decided that the Eastern Province should also join the area in which the Tamil people are represented, have decided to send a letter to the President in Jaffna as it is a great injustice that the members of the Eastern Province are not given space for this discussion.

If there is an opportunity for Tamil political parties to discuss with the President, then it has been decided in Jaffna that all Tamil political parties will come together and prepare a draft on the mechanism under which a Tamil National Congress should be formed and power should be distributed to the North and Eastern provinces.
