Japan rejects news on creditor’s conference in Sri Lanka, contradicts Reuters and the local media reports!

As reported recently in Sri Lankan media as well as Reuters, Japan is expecting to organize a creditors’ conference in Sri Lanka. The Japanese government refutes the truth of this report.

It further indicated from the reports that Japan has resorted to this with the aim of providing some relief to Sri Lanka’s debt crisis.

However, the Japanese government is denying the news, the as Daily FT has reported today.

Answering a question raised by a journalist at a press conference held last Tuesday, the Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs has stated that he is not ready to hold such a conference for Sri Lanka.

We are having various interactions with Sri Lanka. We are also closely monitoring the serious economic situation in Sri Lanka. We are currently implementing plans to provide humanitarian aid to the country in the form of pharmaceutical products and food in the face of the country’s economic crisis.

We hope that the Government of Sri Lanka will try to implement financial and economic solutions by ensuring transparency in coordination with the International Monetary Fund and the Paris Club. “Our country will closely monitor the situation in Sri Lanka and discuss with Sri Lanka or other international donor organizations,” he added.
