After Black July 1983, a mysterious plane arrived in Sri Lanka from America in August. Although there were rumours that the plane came to refuel, the American Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger was on that plane. He had tea with then President JR and went back. This secret visit of the American Defense Secretary not only disturbed India but also the Soviet Union.
‘US dig deeper into Sri Lanka’
This is how India’s media reported the Defense Secretary’s visit. Indian media mentioned that setting up an American naval base in Trincomalee was discussed there. The Indian media had reported for that America had promised to help Sri Lanka economically.
The US Defense Secretary came to Sri Lanka in August after Black July 1983. Because of Black July, JR’s government was criticised by the international community. Britain and Europe had raised their voice against Black July. JR showed to America Britain and Europe that the JVP was behind Black July, and JVP is backed by Soviet Union’s KGB spies. JR showed Black July a work of JVP, and banned radical left parties including JVP, JR must have given this rope to American Defense Secretary also.
After 30 years from that, in February 2023, a secret plane arrived in Sri Lanka from America, and the leftist party leaders mentioned that chief of C.I.A. William Burns had arrived in it. Foreign media reported the flight carrying the chief of C.I.A. came from Greece, and he was supposed to go to Nepal from Sri Lanka, but Nepal did not allow him to enter the country.
CIA Chief’s visit is still a mystery but the leftist leaders said he discussed about setting up of a naval base in Trincomalee. During this meeting it is not known Ranil following his Uncle’s strategy sounded that if an election held the JVP’s rise and danger is its connection with China.
It is not known whether Ranil tried to peruse CIA chief to get American support to obtain IMF facility and for him to put down JVP. Last year CIA chief Burns made a statement and said reason for Sri Lankan economic problem is Chinese debt trap and it is a good eye-opener for the countries depending on China. This shows in his agenda on Asia he has an interest on Sri Lanka as well.
IMF which said to get their facility Ranil’s government should have a mandate they change that stand and gave the IMF facility do not know because of the influence of the CIA chief’s visit here. Ranil who was prime minister thrice before could not fulfil a single agreement reach with America. Reason was Sri Lankan considered him is an American puppet. The plight of MCC understanding was the same. If CIA chief had come to Sri Lanka and reached an understanding with Ranil it would not be a surprise the plight of that too would have been the same.
