In July, Sri Lanka’s poverty line goes up to Rs. 13,138.

The official poverty line at the National level for July, 2022 has been increased to Rs. 13,138, the Census and Statistics Department says. 

The calculations of the minimum expenditure per person per month to fulfill basic needs, and in January 2022, the amount was at the limit of Rs. 8923, while in 2021 it remained at Rs. 7913 and Rs. 7395 in 2020.

The Department noted that the the reason for the increased in the official poverty line is due to the high NCPI value reported in July, 2022 compared to previous month.

The NCPI year-on-year inflation reported in July was noted as 66.7%.
