HRCSL demands report on 83 SYU protest arrests

Sri Lanka’s Human Rights Commission wants an early report on the arrest of 83 persons at a Socialist Youth Union protest.

Human Rights Commission said it told IGP to send report on Monday (26).

Human Rights Commission staff have been sent to police stations to check on detainees.

SSP Nihal Thalduwa, Police Media Spokesperson, said 83 protesters will be in court on Sunday (25).
Last night, the police media spokesperson recorded their statements.

The DIG for Colombo District is supervising further investigations.

Two Ven. Theros, 77 men, and 4 women were arrested at the Socialist Youth Union’s peaceful anti-repression march.

Eranga Gunasekara, the SYU’s national organiser, was detained.

The group is being held in Maradana and Slave Island.
