He was found guilty of both charges in a case against Gnanasara Thero by the Attorney General.
In 2016, the case was held for causing damage to national and religious harmony by the statement made regarding the Kooragala temple at a public press conference held in Colombo.
Gnanasara Thero was previously sentenced to prison with hard labour, but at that time former President Maithripala Sirisena granted him a presidential pardon.
