According to the health department, two small children in the Kantale area died as a result of their condition worsening due to the cold weather that has affected the island.
A two-and-a-half-month-old baby from Kantale Raja Ala and a three-year-old boy from Kantale Peraru are among these children.
Both of these children died early yesterday (09), and the health department revealed that one of them had a lung disorder.
According to reports, the three-year-old boy died as a result of breathing difficulties caused by the extreme cold.
However, Dr. Deepal Perera, Pediatrician at Lady Ridgway Children’s Hospital in Colombo, stated that due to the extreme cold weather these days, young children are at risk of respiratory problems and other illnesses.
