For 24 media meetings, former President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s closed media centre  spent 75 lakhs.

It is reported that nearly 75 lakh rupees have been spent for the special media Centre installed during the reign of former President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

This has been reported based on information obtained under the Freedom of Information Act.

After Sudeva Hettiarachi and Kingsley Ratnayake joined the media unit of the former president, this new media centre was created following the model of the American president’s White House media room.

This media centre operated on the ground floor of the Standard Chartered Bank building in front of the President’s House in Colombo Fort and there was enough space for about forty people to participate at a given time.

Between July 21, 2021 and April 8, 2022, the relevant media centre was active and the number of media meetings held there were 24.
