Contempt of court! The Court of Appeal has decided to hear all three Sanath Nishantha cases!

Those complaints were heard today (28) by the President of the Court of Appeal, Judge Nishanka Bandula Karunaratne and the appellate Court Bench consisting of judge A. Marikkar.

At that time, the respondent State Minister Mr. Sanath Nishantha also appeared in the court.

There, Deputy Solicitor General Lakmini Girihagama informed the court that the court has received the government examiner’s report related to the videotape which is said to contain the statement of the respondent state minister.

After that, lawyers including the President’s counsel Mr. Romesh De Silva, who appeared for the petitioner, requested that a date be fixed for the hearing of the petition.

After that, the court also fixed the date to hear the related complaints on June 27.

The 3 petitions have been submitted by two lawyers of Sri Lanka Judicial Officers Association, Vijitha Kumara and Priyalal Sirisena.

The three petitions have been filed alleging that the court has been insulted by a statement made by Mr. Sanath Nishantha regarding the magistrates’ provision of bail to the activists during a press conference held at the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna party office on August 23rd.
