CID tracks 600 customs and income tax officials

The intelligence department has reported facts to the government about more than six hundred customs and income tax officials helping millionaire businessmen and friends escape the tax net.

According to government sources, these facts have been revealed by a special intelligence report submitted to the government.

Thus, the government has already informed the intelligence department to provide further details regarding these fraudulent officers.

Meanwhile, a special study has revealed to the government that the Sri Lanka Customs and the Inland Revenue Department are losing more than ten thousand crores of tax that can be collected annually due to their various corruption frauds and irregularities.

In order to prevent this situation, it is reported that the high level of the government has focused on establishing a formal institution for revenue management.

It was also discussed at length in the ruling party MPs group meeting chaired by President Ranil Wickramasinghe that a large amount of recoverable tax revenues are lost due to the wrong actions of officials.

The MPs Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Rohitha Abeygunawardena had explained the facts in detail there.

In this meeting, many MPs have pointed out to the President that the country’s economic crisis can be solved to a significant extent if the revenue lost due to various frauds is recovered.

It is learned that the President has stated that necessary measures will be taken promptly.

In the meantime, more than five thousand people who earn special incomes including doctors, lawyers, tution class teachers, liquor store owners and gas station owners have reported to the government that they are avoiding paying income tax.

The government has also paid special attention to the proper collection of tax money from these people. –
