Reports reaching from the parliament circles notes that Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe’s presentation to the Ministers and other members of the Parliament regarding the current economic situation of the country ended in a squabble.

Both the ruling party and opposition members attended this session. A heated situation has arisen with the commencement of the question round.

First, Mr. Nandalal Weerasinghe mentioned that when he assumed the position of Governor, the dollar reserve in the Central Bank had dropped to 200 million.

But Mr. Lakshman Kiriella has questioned about that statement and asked that there was no such indications in any of the central bank reports submitted to the Parliament in the past .

Mr. Lakshman Kiriella has stated that although the Parliament is the main place responsible for finances, it is a serious situation that such an incident is not reported to the Parliament.

However, there was a heated exchange of words between Mr. Kiriella and the Governor of the Central Bank. Finally Mr. Kiriella got up and left the gathering.

Subsequently, the situation has become more heated due to the exchange of heated words between the members of the ruling party and Dr. Harsha de Silva.

That is with the questioning of the central bank for not taking any action regarding this kind of economic crisis despite the fact that the opposition leader as well as the members of the opposition including himself have been continuously saying for a long time.

The ruling party MPs have denied the opposition claim and said they did not do such a thing.

With Dr. Harshada Silva’s reply , a very heated situation has seen in the meeting.

Dr. Harsha de Silva also noted that the President always invites us to join the government. But it has been learned that when the members of the government are behaving like this, how can we cooperate with the government and left the meeting.
