American Apparel support is welcomed- JAAF

The Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF) has welcomed the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) and the American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFAcall )’s to action to support Sri Lanka’s apparel sector’s efforts to ensure worker welfare.

According to the Joint Apparel Association Forum, the call to action in response to Sri Lanka’s economic meltdown is welcomed. The country is reeling under the weight of the ongoing crisis, which includes power outages, shortages, and rising basic-goods prices.

ETI and AAFA have extended their support to the apparel industry, mobilising to express their solidarity with the garment industry and its workers in Sri Lanka during the country’s ongoing economic crisis.

According to JAAF, the move supplements and improves worker protections already in place in the industry. It also demonstrates that international brands see Sri Lanka as a long-term, sustainable partner.

ETI, the Fair Wear Foundation, the Fair Labor Association, and the British Retail Consortium have issued a joint call to action, urging companies sourcing from Sri Lanka to take specific steps to support workers, suppliers, and the sector as a whole during this difficult time.

The group is urging businesses and the international community to do more to assist Sri Lanka during the current economic crisis.
