Some trade unions of the Union of Professionals are still engaged in their trade union actions.

The Ceylon Electricity Board’s Engineers’ Association stated that the work to be carried out from the previous day will continue until the 21st.

The Federation of University Teachers’ Unions says its union will continue to strike.

Due to this, the university studies were disrupted today and the president of the University Teachers’ Association, Professor Shyam Bannahaka, said that his association has decided not to participate in the evaluation of A-level answer sheets.

They stated that the payee Tax levied at the rate of 6% to 36% on monthly income exceeding Rs.1 lakh has put professionals in many fields in dire straits.

However, the Government Medical Officers’ Union, one of the parties of the union of professionals, ended the strike at 8 am today saying that the President has expressed his willingness to consider their demands.

The union of health unions also announced that the strike which was carried out yesterday was temporarily ended at 6.30 am today, based on several issues including the cut in allowances.

The strike started by the port workers ended today at 7:00 am and the one-day strike action carried out by the electrical workers yesterday ended at midnight yesterday.

In the meantime, bank operations were conducted as normal this morning, and the strike by postal workers throughout the island in support of the unity of the professional unions was also ended at midnight last night, said Mr. Chintaka Bandara, the co-convener of the Postal United Union Front.

Mr. KU Konthasinghe, President of the Locomotive Railway Engineers Union, stated that the train was running as normal today and the strike by the railway workers was temporarily ended from midnight yesterday.

Teachers’ and Principals’ Unions have also withdrawn from the strike and the activities of government schools were carried out as normal today.
