After charging more for electricity, beginning January, we won’t disconnect power for nonpayment!

Mr. Ranjan Jayalal, Convener of the Ceylon Electricity Board United Trade Union Alliance, stated that if steps are taken to raise electricity tariffs beginning in January, electricity workers will not go  to cut off power to homes that do not pay their bills.

Mr. Jayalal went on to say that if the electricity services go ahead and disconnect the electricity supply despite the increase in such electricity charges, the people’s reaction could be dangerous, and if that happens, there will be a problem with the safety of the electricity workers.

Mr. Jayalal stated this in response to the Minister of Power and Energy, Mr. Kanchana Wijesekera, who stated that he will take steps to increase electricity tariffs beginning in January.
