A priceless son was lost to the country….!

The events we hear and see today demonstrate how careless people are. Many precious lives are lost as a result of that carelessness. A sad incident that we heard the other day exemplifies how much destruction carelessness causes in society.

Vimukti Prasad Jayaweera left his vehicle around 11 p.m. on February 4th to fetch lotus flowers for the ‘kiriammawarunge danaya’, which was to be held early the next morning in order to find blessing for his infant child. Vimukti, who had gone to Bandaragama Bolgoda Tunbodhi to buy lotus flowers and was on his way home, was involved in an accident, blurring a hundred thousand and one hopes and dreams. He was involved in an accident when his car collided with a road barricade that was being used improperly for road repair.

He had received a phone call from his wife while on his way to bring lotus flowers, and he had stated that he was on his way home. Despite having stated that, she had called him again due to the delay in Vimukti’s arrival. Another person had answered the phone at the time. He stated that his husband was in a serious car accident and was taken to Horana Base Hospital.

Dr. Vimukti Prasad Jayaweera, who lost his life in this way, was residing in Gonapala Kumbuka Meikanda area. He was employed as a Senior Test Scientist at the Nano Research Institute (SLINTEC) in Homagama. He is an old boy of Colombo Lumbini and D.S. Senanayake Colleges, was also an alumnus of the 2007 batch of Colombo University. He was 37 years old when he died.

Vimukti is also considered to have made great efforts to make maximum use of graphite by conducting research on graphite in Sri Lanka. He is also the leader of the research team on Gaffin at the Institute of Nanotechnology.

Vimukti is someone who dreamed of generating foreign income for Sri Lanka. He is an exemplary father who fulfilled his duties and responsibilities while leading a successful family life.

In fact, there is no proper order and security in many development activities in our country. That insecurity can often be seen in road development activities. As a result, the number of casualties was very high.

When Vimukti came driving his car, many people said that the main reason for this accident was the lack of security in a place where the development work of the road had not been completed. He was seriously injured when his car collided with the road barricade and the concrete floor there, and his neck was severely damaged. Even though the local residents had come and rushed him to the hospital, the doctors were unable to save Vimukti’s life.

Another reason for this accident was the car’s airbag.

The air bag had activated with the push that occurred during the accident, and a piece of iron thrown from the air bag protection system had severed a major blood vessel in Vimukti’s neck.

This accident happened to Vimukti today; tomorrow you too may have to face due to some fault in your vehicle’s airbag system. Many people are of the opinion that the risk of this air bag in a car exploding is high over time. The iron pieces that explode in this way come as a bullet towards the person driving the vehicle. Therefore, if you pay attention while driving, you will be able to avoid such accidents.

Sub inspector of police Wimal Ananda, of Moragahahena Police, told the court that the accident occurred due to the use of a concrete barriers in an unsafe manner by a telephone company on the main bus line of Horana Colombo 120. Also, he mentioned that although the roadblocks used during such repairs should have lights on so that they can be seen better at night, the lack of such lights is a reason for this accident.

Mr. Dimuthu Dayal Lorenzuhewa, who works as a work inspector in a private construction company, has been charged with this unsafe construction, and Magistrate Chandana Kalansuriya ordered him to be remanded.

A relative of Mr. Vimukti said this about this unsafe car accident.

My brother was at the place where he said it was the right for this country. According to his education, he does not need to suffer in this country. If he had left the country, this would not have happened. Work has been done on the road here during the day. Even he been from this village, he could not prevent this accident. How can an outsider survive if it was like this?

How can there be a pit which was not there in the morning appear in the afternoon? During this period educated people are leaving the country. He did not go because of his love to the country. If there is an accident site like this in another country, it will be notified from a distance of kilometre away that there is a dangerous place ahead. The people of this country are still in the Stone Age. No matter who these people are, they should do their jobs honestly…’

It is reported that the deceased Mr. Vimukti was also working as an executive committee member of a major political party in Sri Lanka. It is reported that Mr. Vimukti had the opportunity to go abroad as a Nano Technology Scientist to any country in the world based on his education and professional experience would accept him. Even so, his close friends had noted on social media that he was a person who stayed in his country and worked honestly with the aim of saving our country from these crises.

Mr. Charindu Jayasundara,

The vehicle fell into a ditch cut on the road. There are no lights on both sides of the road. If such pits were cut, they could have been covered with yellow luminous colors at night so that other vehicles could see them so that vehicles would not fall into them. Countless incidents like this happen in the country where there is no disciplinary system. The loss of such precious lives to the country is a very sensitive matter.’

Sister Manuri Prabhasari Velaboda

All the people in this country are going to leave us. Last night, the car fell into a telecom pit and due to the damage, he said goodbye to us forever today. He was a Nanotechnology Scientist but he did not leave this country even though he got many opportunities to leave because of the feeling that he should stay in this country and change this evil system. In the end, it was the currupt system that deprived us of freedom. Where do we really have freedom? Where is this country heading?’

Sanchika Gamlath

Why did you go like this when you were going to single out the future of a country? I still remember what you said about the page you made. Brother, let’s gather those who can create a better future for the country and address them. Let’s all build others together. O great human soul, I promise to do something right with a grain of salt to fulfil your great goals…’

Many people believe that the country’s system is to blame for the damage and destruction. It is clear that careless repairs and constructions affect hundreds of thousands of drivers every day. It is not a new experience for us to see hundreds of traffic queues formed immediately as a result of certain road development works that begin unexpectedly. However, irresponsible officials who cause such serious accidents and prematurely kill precious lives that are a resource for the country must face severe penalties. If not, the country will undoubtedly lose hundreds of precious lives, such as Vimukti, in the near future.
