Seven urban councils promoted to municipal councils.

The Cabinet of Sri Lanka has approved changes to the Provincial Councils and Urban Councils.

Minister Bandula Gunawardena, Cabinet Spokesperson, announced that seven urban councils have been elevated to municipality council status.

He named the urban councils as Kalutara, Vavuniya, Puttalam, Trincomalee, Mannar, Ampara, and Kegalle during the weekly Cabinet media briefing today.

Meanwhile, it has been decided to convert three provincial councils into urban councils.

The Provincial Councils, according to Minister Bandula Gunawardena, are Killinochchi, Mullaitivu, and Monaragala.

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, in his capacity as Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government, made the proposal.

The decision was made after considering the effectiveness of the services provided to the people in the area.
