Reliable sources indicated ever since the general secretary of Pohottuwa’s statement indicating the support for the acting president in the parliament in the selection of a new president has stirred a series of tangles within the party.
Later, in a public announcement made by the president of Pohottuwa, G.L. Pieris, announced that the party would back Dalas Alahpperuma’s candidature. It was noted yesterday that many Pohottuwa MPs met in secret at a star-class hotel in Kolpitiya.
Many MPs who attended this secret meeting stated that with the party split and the vote being kept secret, they will find it difficult to return to their constituencies.
