Wikileaks release 2007 document related to Ranil

Wikileaks has released a document relating to a 2007 conversation between Sri Lanka’s newly elected President, Ranil Wickremesinghe, and the Japanese government.

The document was released just hours after Ranil Wickremesinghe was elected as Sri Lanka’s eighth Executive President in a secret ballot held in Parliament.

Wikileaks published a document in which Ranil Wickremesinghe, the opposition leader in 2007, requested that Japan stop sending money to Sri Lanka.

According to the document, Japan responded that the Sri Lankan people should not be punished “for things their leaders did and did not do.”
