Chinese social media platform bars a promotional campaign by SL

According to a top source, a Chinese social media platform has suspended a promotional campaign organised by the Sri Lankan embassy in retaliation for the government’s decision to cancel the Chinese ship’s visit.

The Sri Lankan government organised this campaign, which will be launched on Friday on ‘Douyin.’ The Sri Lankan mission, however, has been informed that it will not be implemented.

The Sri Lankan authorities believe it was in retaliation for Sri Lanka’s postponement of the ‘Yuan Wang 5’ research ship’s port call due to Indian protests.

A top source also stated that many social media sites in China are flooded with negative comments about Sri Lanka. It has also been reported that some Chinese supermarkets have put off purchasing Sri Lankan goods.
