“This is a very sad situation. We have never heard such a story before. There is no money to pay the monthly salaries for the South Sudanese army and allied armed groups of the government. Because of this, the government has asked the military members to rape Sudanese girls in exchange for that salary. The government has declared that it will not take any legal action against those soldiers of rape, and that it will give full permission for that practice. According to that, in the last year alone, about 1300 young women in South Sudan have been brutally raped. These girls are between 13 and 30 years old. A large number of schoolgirls are among them. Majority of these rapes have taken place as a payment against the army salary. It has been 5 years since South Sudan became an independent state. There is no progress in the country. It is being aired day by day.”
This heart-wrenching story is heard exactly 07 years ago. These are not made by stories by anyone for fun. A real happening that happened in some part of the world. It is a story that we have never heard before that the government of a certain country is grant permission to rape young women in exchange for military pay. But now it has surfaced as a real happening.
This was stated in a BBC International Media Service report published 7 years ago. That is, the statement was made on March 11, 2016. According to the BBC report, it is said that the above serious announcement was made directly by the United Nations, not by some unknown party. That is, the BBC media report was prepared according to an official report of the United Nations at that time. The report stated at the time that South Sudan was the number one sex crime country in the world.
More significantly what was revealed is that this United Nations human rights report was published under the supervision of the then human rights commissioner, Zoeid Raad Al Hussain. He has further emphasized that South Sudan is the country with the worst and most disgusting human rights violations in the world. The above UN report shows that when some South Sudanese military members raped schoolgirls, the girls’ mothers the girls mothers were shown the scenes and the crimes how they were committed in a brutal manner.
For a long time, it was only one Sudan. After years of civil war in Sudan, this saw the creation of South Sudan as a separate state on July 9, 2011. Since then, the country has been governed under a separate government. A separate president was appointed to the independent state of South Sudan, which was separated 12 years ago.
He was also an army chief who led a civil war against the main Sudan. Thus the Sudanese politician named Salâ Kiir Mayardit became the first president of South Sudan. He was previously the vice president of the main Sudanese state. He was also the military commander of Sudan. He, is currently 71 years old, has been the President of South Sudan for 12 years since the establishment of that state.
What led me to start this article by writing the above sad story of the state of South Sudan? It is a wonderful story. A few days before, it was reported from the city of ‘Jraba’ in South Sudan, South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardt was to declare open a newly constructed highway in that city, and all the people are standing alert for the national anthem to be played.
After a minute of the commencement of the national anthem was being played It was noticed some kind of liquid wetting his trousers and pouring down from his groin area. It was an unnatural sight. President’s long pants were seen getting wet and this started flowed down to the bottom.
It was noticed the solution seemed to flow down from his genital area. Instantly, he and the people who saw this sight were very uncomfortable. The assembled crowd and the President immediately realized what was happening. It appeared that the president was urinating without realizing it. He was wearing light blue long pants at the time so it was very clearly seen how the urine was pouring out.
After passing the urine for a few seconds, near his shoes on the ground got filled with urine resembling a small pool near his feet. At the time of this incident, the president was also seen tilting his head to see what was happening to him. It was also seen that the people gathered to witness the occasion too were also very uncomfortable.
Several journalists who saw the predicament faced by the President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, captured the scenes on their cameras. The photojournalists captured live views of the incident for several seconds until it was over. After that, after the ceremony, these rare views were broadcasted through various media.
The second episode of the incident started from there. That created a series of explosion from there onwards. About 06 photojournalists who filmed the scenes broadcasted their rare capture through their media networks. Also, many social media networks started broadcasting views of the incident which happened less than an hour ago. The President of South Sudan was watching the media coverage of the incident with great attention.
Only a few more minutes passed. The President became very angry and agitated. President Salva Kiir Myardit ordered his security forces to immediately arrest all the 06 journalists who broadcasted these camera shots related to him. The security forces also promptly implemented their ruler’s order. All 06 journalists were arrested as soon as possible. However, South Sudan TV stopped broadcasting footage of the incident.
This is because they realized their fate if these scenes were broadcasted by the state television. Despite the situation, it was reported through some media that several journalists associated with the Sudanese state media worked to publicize the above footage. It is also reported that among the arrested journalists, there are also journalists who work for the South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation, which is controlled by the Sudanese government.
It is reported the names of journalists who have been arrested and detained in this manner were broadcast through some media. It is reported that there are no foreign journalists detained but only Sudanese national journalists.
Somehow, several different media organizations have expressed their protest about this arbitrary and unfair action of the Sudanese President. The Committee to Protect Journalists, an international organization, has issued a statement calling for the immediate release of all arrested journalists. The Union of Journalists of South Sudan has also issued a statement saying that an investigation should be carried out immediately into the arrests.
Meanwhile, journalists’ organizations as well as several international human rights organizations have directed their protest against the South Sudanese government. However, the journalists who have been arrested and detained have not been released so far. These days, the police in the country launched operations in search of two journalists who reported this incident and are said to be hiding.
Somehow, after this incident faced by the President of South Sudan was publicized in the media, various people have presented their views and opinions through various social media. Many parties have expressed their opinion whether an elderly person with such physical disabilities is fit to lead a country. These parties have questioned whether the Sudanese president, who is currently 71 years old, has the health and strength to lead the country.
And in the face of civil conflicts, poverty, hunger, severe climate change in South Sudan, it has become a concern how such an elderly, sick person could face the hardship of leadership and lead the country. In this incident, comments have been made whether the president passed urine without his knowledge or is it due to a medical condition is the observations made by the medical community. They have further emphasized that the best course of action is for such sick adults to be freed from positions of responsibility.
In medical science, this condition is known as Urinary Incontinence. This condition often occurs in the elderly. A person does not intentionally urinate in his body. In this way, this condition is completely sick condition. There are various medical treatments and medicines for this disease. They also wear ‘pads’. Anyway, if the President of South Sudan had carried out such a remedy that day, he would not have faced the situation. If he had such a urinary condition, he could wear a ‘pad’ garment while attending a public meeting. This incident is a good example for many state leaders who are over 70 years old. In our country, most of the state leaders are over 70 years old. There are many such old leaders in other parts of the world. But who advises them to wear pads?
On the other hand, recently the government issued a circular that government officials who are over 60 years of age should be retired. Accordingly, many government officials also retired. We are saying that the 60 year law should also apply to the politicians of this country as well. Because many politicians who are over 60 are currently representing Parliament unable to even walk. Some say that because of this, the Parliament has become an elder’s home. This is an eye opener to the 60 + politicians of our country to realise this incident of Sudanese president that their time has come for retirement.
