The PUC’s Consumer Advisory Committee fears another energy price rise will exacerbate Sri Lanka’s industrial sector’s downfall..

According to the Consumer Advisory Committee of the Public Utilities Commission says, the fall of the industrial sector in Sri Lanka will intensify if the electricity cost increases once more.

Its chairman, Nimal Perera, attended a news conference in Colombo and stated that, as a result of the exceptional increase in the power bill, the prices of all goods and services will continue to rise indefinitely, and the people will be forced to shoulder the burden.

“Those who pay for less than 30 units of electricity currently pay 360 rupees, but if the price is raised, they will be required to pay 2,000 rupees. Those who currently pay 780 rupees for 30 to 60 units must now pay 3,310 rupees. Those who currently pay between 60 and 90 units must pay 4,860 rupees if they pay 1800 rupees. They are turning their backs on the Public Utilities Commission out of concern that the public is in the dark today, and there is much misunderstanding here “Western Province Consumer Advisory Committee delegate Nishantha Prithiraj of the Public Utilities Commission stated.
