The opposition leader fires a barrage of questions at the speaker.

Opposition leader Mr. Sajith Premadasa questioned the Speaker in Parliament today regarding the appointment of Acting Chairpersons without giving the post of Chairman of the Finance Committee to Dr. Harsha De Silva.

He expressed concerns about the manner in which a pro-term chairman was appointed, and many regulations were passed in the finance committee that are antithetical to the committee’s expected fair play. He reminded the speaker that the appointment of a chairman and proposing a chariman of the finance committee according to the parliamentary standing orders is the responsibility of the opposition, and that a pro term chariman can be appointed once the chairman is appointed.

All the other MPs in the committee have refused to accept the chairmanship other than our nominee Dr Harsha de silva.
