The national debt is 24 trillion dollars! In May alone, increased by 741 billion!

By the end of May 2022, the total debt payable by the Government of Sri Lanka will be Rs. 24,051.3 billion or Rs. 24.05 trillion is reported.

In May 2022, the total loan amount was Rs. 12,522.1 billion as local loans and Rs. 11,529.2 billion as foreign debt.

In April 2022, the domestic credit was Rs. 12,442.3 billion and foreign debt of Rs. was 10,867.8 billion.

Thus, in the month of May, the domestic credit was Rs. 79.8 billion and foreign debt increased by 661.4 billion.

Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka says that according to the guidelines for the compilation of public finance statistics published by the International Monetary Fund in 2014, investments in Sri Lanka development bonds owned by non-residents and investments in international sovereign bonds are classified under foreign debt, and Sri Lanka owned by residents Investments in Ceylon development bonds and investments in international sovereign bonds are classified under domestic debt.
