Media’s role is to report not to pass judgement – SJB MP- Marikkar

Mr.S.M. Marikkar Sajaba Member of Parliament made a special disclosure in Parliament. about how two owners of two media organizations conspired with the government to kill a million people,

It is about Rwanda.

The MP stated that some media outlets in Sri Lanka are attempting to act in this manner, which cannot be tolerated. The MP detailed what happened in Ruwanda and how two media organisations assisted the Ruwanda administration in killing so many people. He stated that one of the two heads of the media institution is now dead and the other is in prison.

Mr Marikkar went on to say that the media’s role is to report, not to pass judgement. He stated that some media institutions in Sri Lanka believe they can get closer to politicians and control everything to their liking. I believe we must take a cue from Mr Wijedasa Rajapakse’s idea and follow a strict programme. After that, anyone can accuse us of attempting to control the media, but we must move forward in a progressive manner. We are not afraid of the bigotry they foster, and we will continue to attend parliament. He stated that the speaker should make a definite choice in this regard.

In Rwanda, the prime minister who made the decisive choice to kill is currently serving a life sentence. Today, Rwanda has overcome all of this and has become the African continent’s Singapore. As a result, if we are to progress, we must abandon all debates and begin from here, the MP concluded.
