The electricity bill will go up in unimaginable ways starting today! The unit of eight is thirty! 10 units equals 37! 16 units equals 42! The 50 and 75 fees are the same! Too much for the small man ! Even fixed rates will rise!

The Electricity Board says that the approval of the Public Utilities Commission to increase the electricity tariffs by 66%, effective from today, was received this afternoon.

Accordingly, the relevant fee revision will be effective from today.

According to this new amendment, the current fee of 8 rupees per unit will be increased to 30 rupees in relation to the original 30 units.

It is proposed to increase the fee of Rs.10 to Rs.37 per unit for 31 to 60 units and Rs.16 to Rs.42 per unit for 61 to 90 units.

No change has been made in the existing fee of Rs. 50 for the category of 91 to 120 units and for the category of 121 to 180 units, as well as the existing fee of Rs. 75 for each unit above 181 units.

Also, the fixed fee for the first 30 units has been increased to 400 rupees, the fixed fee for the category of 31 to 60 units has been increased to 550 rupees, and the fixed fee for the category of 61 to 90 units has been increased to 650 rupees.

Also, from 91 to 120 units and from 121 to 180 units, the fixed fee has increased to 1500 rupees.

For religious places and charitable places, the fee of 08 rupees per unit has been increased to 30 rupees for the first 30 units, and the price of a unit has been increased to 37 rupees from 15 rupees under the category of 31 to 90 units.

Each unit above 180 units will be charged Rs 50 instead of Rs 32.

It is proposed to increase the fixed fee of 90 rupees for the first 30 units to 400 rupees for religious places and charities, the fixed fee of 120 rupees to 550 rupees for the category of 31 to 90 units, and the fixed fee of 1500 rupees to 2000 rupees for the category above 180.

For the industrial sector, the fee charged per unit under the first 300 units category has been increased from 20 rupees to 26 rupees only.

The fee for each unit above 300 units has been increased to 26 rupees from 20 rupees.

The fixed fee of Rs.960 charged for the first 300 units has been increased to Rs.1200 and the fixed fee of Rs.1500 for every industry above 300 units has been increased to Rs.1600 only.

For public works, hotels and government institutions, the unit fee for the first category below 180 units has been increased from 25 rupees to 40 rupees, and for the category above 180 units, the unit fee from 32 rupees has been increased to 47 rupees. It has been proposed to increase the fixed fee of 360 rupees for the first 180 units to 1000 rupees for public works, hotels and government institutions, and the fixed fee of 1500 rupees to 1600 rupees for categories above 180 units
