The deception of Mahinda Amaraweera

On the 17th morning, Mahinda Amaraweera, the Minister of Agriculture, paid an unexpected inspection visit to the government-owned Lanka Fertilizer Company Limited and the Colombo Commercial Fertilizer Ltd. to inspect fertiliser distribution.

Out of the expected 65, 000 metric tonnes under the Indian credit facility, 44,000 MT fertiliser was unloaded in Sri Lanka last week.
The remaining MT 21,000 stocks are expected to arrive in Sri Lanka within the next two weeks.

Fuel shortages are impeding fertiliser distribution efforts, so the minister has taken steps to address this by speaking with relevant authorities.
The minister has directed his ministry’s officials to pay the petroleum corporation in cash for 5 fuel bausers.

Uriah distribution is handled 60 percent by Lanka Fertilizer Company Limited and 40 percent by Colombo Commercial Fertilizer Ltd. Distribution encompasses the entire country.

Mr. Amaraweera, on the other hand, stated that he had resigned from his position as Agriculture Minister.
