Three political prisoners who had been imprisoned for 14 years were released yesterday by Vavuniya High Court Judge M. Elanchelian (03).
The three were arrested and imprisoned in May 2009 in Jaffna, Mullaitivu, and Vavuniya by security forces.
However, because the Attorney General has not filed any charges against them, Vavuniya High Court attorney at law Mr. Anton Punidanayagam told the court that detaining these three is unfair and ineffective.
The Vavuniya High Court Judge considered their detailed reports before releasing them.
E. Thiruvarul (45 years), M. Sulaksan (34 years), and K. A Darshan (33 years) were released after 14 years, and a large number of their relatives came to the Vavuniya High Court to see the Tamil political prisoners.
