Colombo high court will deliver their order on February 28th whether it is possible to proceed or no with the case filed against former minister Mr Wimal Weerawansa who is accused of illegally earning more than 75 million rupees in assets and property

The case was called before Colombo High Court Judge Navaratne Marasinghe today (16).

The lawyers representing Mr. Wimal Weerawansa had raised initial objections that since “Member of Parliament” is not defined as a government employee under the Constitution, it is not possible to pursue this case against him under the Bribery Act.

The written speeches related to the initial objection were filed before the court by the lawyers of both sides today.

The Colombo High Court announced that the verdict will be announced on February 28.

The Bribery Commission had filed the case against Mr. Wimal Weerawansa under the Bribery Act, alleging that he had illegally earned more than 75 million rupees in assets and money during his tenure as a minister from 2010 to 2015.
