A man was arrested after luring several school students in the Galle area with sexual advances via social media.
The suspect was apprehended by the Criminal Investigations Department in response to a complaint filed by a group of victims’ parents.
According to the police, investigations have revealed that the man sexually abused several children studying in schools throughout Galle.
He is said to have used WhatsApp to entice the children into sexual activities while posing as a priest running a well-known temple.
After appearing in the Galle Magistrate’s Court, the suspect, a 44-year-old Unawatuna resident, was remanded until August 23.
