State owned TV channels goes off the air

Rupavahini and the ITN reportedly has gone off the air as protester’s have invaded the two stations.

The state-owned Independent Television Network (ITN) went off the air a short time ago after a group of protestors attempted to breach the security on the premises and take over the channel forcibly.

It is understood that ITN officials quickly took the channel off the air before the protestors entered the premises.

Earlier in the day, protestors forcibly entered Rupavahini, the national television channel, and took control of the broadcast, forcing the station to go off the air. After security personnel cleared the premises, Rupavahini management re-broadcast the channel a few minutes ago.
