Sri Lanka ranks third in terms of food price inflation

Sri Lanka ranks third in terms of real food inflation between September 2021 and August 2022, and fourth in terms of nominal food inflation, according to a research by the World Bank on food security.

Sri Lanka ranks fourth in terms of nominal food inflation, with a year-over-year rate of 91%, while it ranks third in terms of actual food inflation, with a rate of 30%.

According to the World Bank research, the nations with the highest nominal inflation are Zimbabwe, Lebanon, and Venezuela in that order.
Due to this condition, the research suggests that 205,1 million people would face a food crisis or an extreme food crisis.

The research also warns of the risk of starvation in the Somali Gulf region during the months of October through December of this year.

The Agricultural Market Information System (AMIS) projects a reduction in rice production in 2022 due to reduced harvest predictions for India and a few other countries, including Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, outweighing minor positive revisions for Brazil and a few other nations.

West African nations, despite the fact that the average international rice price varied little from one month to the next, exhibited mixed movements among the major exporters.
