Petitions were filed before the Supreme Court demanding that the local government elections be held as directed by the Election Commission, on behalf of the United People’s Movement, its Secretary General Ranjith Madduma Bandara, and on behalf of the Free People’s Alliance, Prof. G.L. Peiris.
Lakshman Kiriella, M. Sumanthiran, Dayasiri Jayasekara and Mr. Anura Priyadarshana Yapa were also involved in it.
