SJB claims a large-scale fraud regarding the purchase of oil.

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Monday said that it will submit accusations with the Bribery Commission and the CID, alleging a large-scale scam involving the purchase of oil.

SJB MP Kabir Hashim told the media that a barrel of oil acquired from Russia costs between $90 and $95 per barrel, yet a barrel may be purchased for $68. “Despite paying a total of $ 190 million for the consignment of crude oil, it has only been possible to produce 80 metric tonnes of refined oil out of it; if action had been taken to import refined oil instead, it would have been possible to import 200,000 metric tonnes of refined oil for the amount spent on crude oil,” MP Hashim said.

“Another difficulty is that oil acquired through tender procedures is not unloaded, whereas oil purchased outside of tender procedures is unloaded,” he added.

“The subject minister should make a remark on these issues,” he said.
