Settled a previous loan to India with IMF funds and requested another, to be used for trade between Sri Lanka and India! Indrajith Kumarasamy

Dr. Indrajith Coomaraswamy, a former central bank governor and a senior economist, said that Sri Lanka has started negotiations to obtain a new loan from India under the foreign exchange facility, while participating in a panel discussion organized by the Center for Banking Studies of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

Mr. Indrajith Coomaraswamy has indicated that the loan amount is expected to be obtained in Indian rupee currency unit and although the value of the loan amount has not been decided yet, its value will be close to one billion US dollars.

Mr. Kumaraswamy said that the money will be used for trade between Sri Lanka and India.
