Party leaders revealed that President Gotabaya Rajapakse has decided to resign on the 13th Poya day after consulting with Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe.
Because Parliament cannot convene on Poya day, Ranil Wickramasinghe can be sworn in as president and a new Prime Minister, would appoint a new cabinet.
As a result, at the party leaders meeting today at 2 p.m., party leaders will attempt to force the speakers to convene the Parliament before the President resigns, allowing a decision to be made on the prime ministers.
The party leaders will insist on the speaker appointing the new Prime Minister tomorrow. However, discussions with the party leader and some Pohottuwa MPs are nearing the end of the process.
