It is reported that the United States is avoiding granting a visa to Mr. Sarath Weerasekera, Chairman of the National Security Sectoral Oversight Committee, to attend a conference in Washington at the end of next month. Sri Lanka Latest News

USDA and the National Institute for Democracy have planned to take the chairpersons of every oversight committee active in the current parliament to Washington for a ten-day workshop.

The United States says that visas should be obtained by all presidents, but the president of the National Security Oversight Committee will not be able to issue a visa within the specified time.

Accordingly, the organizers of the workshop say that Mr Sarath Weerasekera, Chairman of the National Security Sectoral Oversight Committee’s name, should be removed from the list of the chairpersons of the Sectoral Oversight Committee for the visit to Washington, and the name of someone else should be submitted instead.

Member of Parliament Sarath Weerasekera says that he will complain about this to the speaker.

The MP, who claims that he revealed that America is behind the people’s struggle launched last year to oust President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, speculates that the accusation that he made to deny him a visa is also there.
