Saliya Pieris has stepped down as President of the Bar Association.

President’s Counsel Saliya Peiris has issued a brief announcement about his stepping down from the position of President of the Sri Lanka Bar Association as his term of office has come to an end.

He states that while working in that position, he acted in accordance with the respectable values of his profession for the benefit of it.

“Keeping in mind the trust and hope you placed in me on the 24th of February 2021, I have always made great efforts to act for the good of our profession in accordance with the honorable values. At this time of my resignation, I believe that I have been able to fulfill the duties of this position in accordance with your expectations. I am constantly strengthened and encouraged by the support you have given me.

It is my sole hope that the Bar Association of Sri Lanka will flourish as a strong and vibrant institution dedicated to the rule of law, democracy, independence of the judiciary and the protection of the rights of the people and the community while instilling the confidence of the people while protecting and promoting the welfare and rights of the members of the Bar Association. He said in his brief announcement.
