RW becoming President violates Sri Lanka’s aspirations, and the public has been warned about the risks.

Former President Maithripala Sirisena believes that the Prime Minister’s becoming acting President would be a violation of the people’s wishes.
According to the former President, there is a race for the presidency.

The President has announced his intention to resign tomorrow (13).

According to the Sri Lankan Constitution, the Prime Minister would then become the next President.
Former President Maithripala Sirisena, on the other hand, stated that he does not know whether the Prime Minister will resign as well.
“The general consensus of the country’s people, particularly among those protesting, is that the Prime Minister should also resign.

” At this time, the government must consult with those involved in the struggle that sparked this historical revolution, particularly those in the Aragalaya,” he said.

As a result, the former President stated that he had informed responsible authorities, as well as the Speaker of the Parliament, about the importance of discussing with protestors and taking them into account in the struggle to implement future political, economic, and social action taken as a Government, in addition to measures taken as the Parliament.

“Every day that these discussions are delayed, our country may fall into a serious, very difficult situation that we could not have predicted,” the former President added.

When asked if the Prime Minister would become acting President if the President resigned, the former President stated that he did not know how the Prime Minister’s mind works, but that the country would descend into chaos if the government did not listen to the people.
