Protect the right to assemble, says the UN rapporteur

The UN Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Association has urged Sri Lanka to protect assembly rights.

The UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Association and Peaceful Assembly, Clement Voule, will closely monitor Sri Lanka’s situation.

Before the Inter-University Student’s Federation’s protests in Colombo on Tuesday (18), Sri Lankan authorities must respect the right to assembly.

He added that law enforcement must protect peaceful protestors and provide a safe space for all to express their opinions.
