Previous resolution on SL lapsed: New proposal drafted to UNHCR with Sumanthiran : USA Canada Germany to present

In the 51st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, which is scheduled to start on the 12th, a new proposal will be presented by the British initiative regarding human rights violations and violations in Sri Lanka.

Countries such as USA, Canada, Germany, Macedonia, Malawi are also supporting this proposal and the member of parliament of the Tamil National Alliance Mr.M. A Sumanthiran is also involved in the preparation of the proposal.

Due to the expiry of the resolution 46/1 adopted in the 46th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council regarding Sri Lanka, it has been decided to adopt a new resolution.

According to Mr. Sumanthiran, this proposal will include the unimplemented matters and recommendations included in the resolutions passed by the United Nations Human Rights Council regarding Sri Lanka since 2012, as well as the unimplemented matters mentioned in Resolution 46/1.

He mentions that the new proposal will also include the establishment of an eight-member body to investigate human rights violations in this country.

The human rights violations, arrests, emergency legal implementation, the re-implementation of the Prevention of Terrorism Act, which has been promised not to be implemented until it is abolished, and the arrest of the activists and the lack of justice for the victims of the Easter Sunday terror attack are also related to Sri Lanka this time.

He also says that it will be included in the adopted resolution. Mr. Sumanthiran added that this resolution will also include issues such as getting a solution to the ethnic problem in Sri Lanka, getting justice and accountability for those who disappeared due to the war. – Lankadeepa
