Police Sergeant dead in Kebithigollewa unrest

A Sri Lanka Police Sergeant died in hospital after being severely wounded during a unrest that broke out in Kebithigollewa on Monday (31) night.

Tensions boiled over in the town located in Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka’s North Central Province after a man was killed in a wild elephant attack.

Crowds took to the streets demanding a solution to the Human-Elephant conflict and they became unruly.

Reports said that Sri Lanka Police fired several rounds into the air to control the situation. 

A Sri Lanka Police Sergeant was seriously injured after he was mobbed by the crowd, and was admitted to a hospital where he died.
