Poland denies visas to Sri Lankan veteran athletes. Are we blacklisted?

It is reported that all the fifteen veteran players who represented Sri Lanka this year for the ‘World Veteran Indoor Sports Championship 2023’ held in Torum, Poland, have not been given visas by the Polish state to participate in the tournament.

Sources close to them revealed that these players have found the sponsors they want and have even booked hotel facilities to stay in the country, and because of this, the players are very disappointed.

he tournament started on March 26th in Torum, Poland and ended on April 1st. The athletes of this country have made necessary arrangements to travel for that last week and they have even booked hotel rooms at their own expense. Some players have spent more than 300,000 rupees from their personal money for this and it is said that the Polish immigration authorities have not taken steps to grant visas to some players even when they have private sponsors.

In the same way, a few weeks ago, a team hoping to participate in an expert indoor sports tournament held in Australia was also not given visa from that country and it is also reported that this situation has created a severe disadvantage for Sri Lanka and the players of this country.

The reason for not granting visas from these countries is because of the suspicion that these players will not return.

It is also reported that there has been no diplomatic intervention from the sports authorities in Sri Lanka to confirm their return.
