Petition filed against Inland Revenue amendment bill.

Today (Oct. 27), a petition was filed with the Supreme Court, asking for a ruling that the Inland Revenue Amendment Bill, which is on the parliamentary agenda, is unconstitutional.

The petitioner is the general manager of a leading private institution in Sri Lanka, and the respondent is the Attorney General.

A petition has been filed requesting that certain sections of the draught be removed or that it be passed with a two-thirds majority.

Furthermore, the petitioner stated that the proposed bill reduces the monthly income limit for which a person must pay tax from two hundred and fifty thousand rupees to one hundred thousand rupees.

The petitioner has stated that an unpayable tax burden will be imposed on the masses, resulting in a severe economic crisis.

The petition also states that there will be a discouragement in areas such as exports, local industries, and development activities.
