Parliamentary Standoff: Delayed Verdict on SJB MPs’ Defection Sparks Constitutional Concerns

In a fiery address to Parliament, Mr Lakshman Kiriella raised concerns over the prolonged delay in concluding the case of two Sahab MPs who defected to the government from the opposition.

Despite three months having elapsed, the verdict remains elusive, prompting questions on the judiciary’s efficiency.

Kiriella highlighted that while two judges have finalized the judgment, one judge appears hesitant to deliver their decision.

Labelling the delay as a constitutional breach, he emphasized his commitment to parliamentary transparency by withholding the judge’s identity for now, intending to disclose it during the next session
